When Vanity Fair opened its gates in February 2007, nearly every Berlin newspaper, magazine and TV-station had to buzz about the architecture of the editorial office in Germany’s capital.
Making another leap from the States across the big pond took some time to accomplish. The Vanity Fair launch project has been in development since mid 2005. The magazine seeks to inform and entertain a primarily young, professional, up-and-coming audience. The magazine’s staff consists of 80 mostly youthful members.
Vanity Fair grew out of the indulgence and opulence of 1920’s New York and was revived after the tumultuous events of the Great Depression and World War II in 1980’s Hollywood. Vanity Fair’s success is due in part to its innovative content and open-minded audience.
The magazine doesn’t just limit itself to celebrity reports, though. It also discusses politics, culture, art, and society in general. The German Vanity Fair balances a similar mix of media.
